atelier diary
October 2001

âÀâ©âÀâ‡â–ßEâþâ®â·âÀâ‡â– In the field below the atelier, you can feel the air of a mid fall. Plants have grown all over. Two girls, Saki and Marie, wanted to make something interesting with ears of Japanese pampa grass. They decided to go to the field by climbing down a rope ladder, which is made by three naughty boys. The girls successfully got to the field and started to gather the ears absorbedly. Hard ears take a little time to become soft. I wonder what they will make with them and how interesting they will be.

âÀâ©âÀâ‡â–ßEâþâ®â·âÀâ‡â– Some children love to draw and paint. Others love to assemble and construct a solid body. Mayuko-chan is one of the former children and she loves that there are many colors in the world. I gave her a sheet of white drawing paper for a contest sponsored by Fuji Xerox, whose theme was "Nature - trees and I". It took little time for her to come up with what she wanted to paint. Then, she started painting in her own way. She just kept on painting. It didn't matter to her even though she had already spent 2 hours or though other children were getting noisy. She didn't get bored until the end and finished her work in 2 weeks.

âÀâ©âÀâ‡â–ßEâþâ®â·âÀâ‡â– This is Rintaro, who always tries to make a robot with cardboard boxes, nails, small pieces of metal and so on. That day I handed him a sheet of stiff transparent hemp cloth. I said to him, "Find something fit for this material." He replied, "Okay, I will," and went out. Soon, he came back from the field in front of the atelier. He was carrying an armful of black branches. He started to fix the branches to the cloth earnestly with wire of the same color. Now, what else will he find during the rest of the summer holiday?

âÀâ©âÀâ‡â–ßEâþâ®â·âÀâ‡â–
Ayami-chan asked to me, "Hey, where are you going to visit this summer?" Other children came into an uproar together with her.
Ayami-chan is always so lively. On that day, she said, "I'll make a badge of Niji-no-Paretto!" and made a lovely one all at once. It was wonderful in design. Let's make a lot of badges with synthetic resin and FRP, everyone!
